The dove has been a symbol of peace and love since long. In Greek  Mythology, Aphrodite, the goddess of love, kept a dove as a pet. Later, Christians believed that the dove symbolized the Holy Spirit. At jesus’ baptism, the Holy Spirit descended on Jesus as a dove.

According to Robert A. Schuller, the dove became a symbol of peace when Noah let a dove out of the Ark after the flood and it returned with an olive branch. This was regarded as God accepting peace overtures from humanity. More recently, artist Pablo Picasso used a dove to symbolize peace. His painting of a single dove become famous the world over when it was used on a poster for the world Peace Congress in 1949.
